Max (Zach) and the Wild Things

Zach's Halloween Party populated with super heros, a peacock, 2 sweet little monkeys, an octopus, a dragon, vampire, lion, policeman, angel,... and our contribution: a jellyfish and praying mantis.

Entertainment included a banging wall; magic show; impromptu talent show by three blond beauties: Haley, Alana, and Kallan; and lots of running, chasing, tagging, tackling, giggling, screaming,...

Costume Preview: Ready for Halloween

The mask proves an effective disguish for a familiar blog character.

The Greenbelt Pumpkin Festival: Fri, Oct. 23

Live music, pumpkin guts, the smell of burning squash flesh, and the opportunity for minor injury makes for one smashing evening of seasonal community fun. The event is organized by our violin teacher, the great Allison Smith. We carved and donated our entire crop (2) that grew spontaneously in the front yard after we spread compost. The kids designed their own faces and advised my technical skills during the carving.

The Children's Theatre of Annapolis Presents Brundibar: Thurs, Oct 22

An operetta, but not exactly opera over easy; this was not light fare for breakfast theatre. A friend got us the tickets. It was not exactly what she was expecting; she has only seen their productions of Peter Pan and Dr. Doolittle. It was still a successful outing. The kids understood the mood (maybe the tears streaming down my face clued them in), but did not grasp the meaning of the darkest parts (readings of poetry written by children of Terezin who were later transferred and gassed at Auswitz). They enjoyed the operetta. Afterward, we headed to swimming lessons.
